Sharon Hardee Jimenez We already see the fissures in the global economy and the fault lines tremble. Free trade agreements, and the amount of time a president spends vacationing became issues in 2016 splitting families, opinions, and a growing fear that we will give up too much based on the hope of a remedy. Whether it's President Trump or former president Barack Obama or Senator Barry Saunders or Bill and Hilary Clinton, Americans knew clearly that a globalized media couldn't possible provide the truth in a way to allow for informed decision making. And, that sure enough other super powers might actually have been successful in interfering with the value we hold most precious; our democracy. When the KKK shows up in 2017 pushing history back to the early 40's when the wounds of war were so deep bullies were able to push even "the buck stops here" Harry Truman into paying a membership fee (he eventually forced the KKK to give him back his money) Despite KKK ties in Missouri Truman took on the powerful segregationists over their hatred of Catholics and became the first President to integrate the US military. This past weekend August 2017 the KKK cowered as Americans came out in huge numbers to say "we won't go back!" But, what to do with suffocating student debt, taxes that only the poor and the middle class are expected to pay and the election of a president who bragged in a national debate that he didn't have to pay taxes because he's smart! Wow! If we do become more nationalistic and put America first whose going to pay for social services and our infrastructure of transportation and other economic necessities if we all get as "smart" as our President? Thanks for trying to tackle a subject as big as money. Inevitably the individual is only as powerful as the whole. Student debt brought millions of young people out to vote for Senator Saunders after all their debt threatens their futures as they find themselves with high debt and many with low wages and long hours to pay for the education that was supposed to give them a chance at the American Dream. The political instability may continue to erupt into violence and heartbreak for all of us. I'm with the late poet Alan Ginsberg in his poem America "I put my queer shoulder to the wheel." Favorite track: Easy Money.
